Speakers
We are honoured to have Wessel van Eeden as our guest speaker this year. Wessel has been a member of Justdiggit since 2013. Currently, he is the Global Communications and Marketing Director, as well as an Executive Board Member. He aims to connect the dots between the predominantly negative climate change narrative and the potential of positive storytelling to promote nature-based solutions and mitigate global warming. We are excited to hear more about what Wessel and Jusdiggit are doing to protect biodiversity at our conference!
Charity
Justdiggit aims to make the world aware that nature-based solutions are the key to reversing climate change and to inspire everyone to take part in making that change happen. They believe in the power of nature and in cooling down the planet together by regreening degraded land and bringing back vegetation.
Over two-thirds of the land in Africa is degraded. Yet, Africa also has the largest restoration potential of all continents on our beautiful planet, with the opportunity to protect and bring back biodiversity to some of the world’s most precious ecosystems. The charity plans to regreen Africa in the coming 10 years, together with 350 million farmers. They are inspiring and empowering millions of subsistence farmers to restore their degraded lands, using proven Sustainable Land Management techniques.
Justdiggit implements many landscape restoration programs, looking for the best ways to closely cooperate with local partners and communities. Some of these regreening techniques include Treecovery, growing grass seed banks and digging rainwater bunds. These interventions are selected in close collaboration with their local partners based on physical conditions (land use, climate, soil conditions, slope) and social conditions (socio-economic structures and land use). So far they have planted 9 million trees, 8 grass seed banks and dug 200,000 rainwater bunds, making a significant impact on Africa’s landscape and its people.
Help Justdiggit on their mission to restore Africa’s landscape and contribute to the UN’s sustainable development goals by donating!
