b'The NewsEarly Years School Issue 178 The British School of AmsterdamBook WeekYear 1 celebrated World Book Day by dedicating a whole week to books, stories and the completion of lots of fun activities.We started the week by sharing our creations from the Paper Plate Challenge. The children were given a paper plate and had to turn it into a character or a scene from a story. So many wonderful ideas!Immersing ourselves the whole week in books and stories, we talked about authors and illustrators and designed our own book covers to mystery books. In assembly the teachers acted out a story, causing lots of laughter and delight. We went on a book hunt matching familiar sentences to the correct books.The Early Years, with the help of parent and teacher volunteers, read Goldilocks and the Three Bears simultaneously in fifteen different languages! The calibre of storytelling was incredibly high with actions, Science Weekcharacter voices and general dramatisation of the well-known fairytale classic. During the day the Nursery and Reception children visited each others classes and took part in some spectacular science experiments. The Year 1 and Year 2 classes visited each other and shared their experiments and findings. Year 1 and 2 children also went to the theatre for a science Q & A with Mrs Sanderson.We had a super special Science Week and we all learned a lot. Now the children are enthusiastic about experimenting to find answers to many other questions about the world they live in.6 7'
