b"The NewsJunior School Issue 11 The British School of AmsterdamEco SquadThe Eco Squad have been very busy this term and continued to spread awareness to our community by organising a number of events.Warm Jumper Day is marked by people across the Netherlands and the Junior School joined the campaign to help save energy by turning down the school heating and wearing a cozy jumper to school. The catchphrase Warm yourself, not the world was promoted by the Eco Squad and they raised funds for an exciting eco projectwatch this space for more information! They also organised a Litter Awareness Week. They wrote letters and presented their ideas to Mr May to explain to him why it is an important cause. Our school corridors have been looking better with the addition of potted plants. The Eco Squad raised money through their card sale earlier in the year to purchase a plant for each year group to enjoy. They potted the plants and taught their peers how to care for them.Book WeekThis year's Book Week was a fun filled week and the children engaged in many different literacy-based activities. We aim to help foster a love of reading for the children through the delivery of many varied English lessons (even more than normal). Each year group focused on learning about a different quality picture book and a wealth of teaching and learning stemmed from the one book in each classroom. The children also had the opportunity to take part in the school's Extreme Reading competition, swap books in the Mystery Book Swap and dress up as their favourite book character. We all joined together for our special Book Week themed Achievement Assembly and over 400 different book characters in the same room was quite the sight to behold.12 13"
