Its difficult to decide who enjoys the visits more, the Year 6 or Nursery children! The older children really enjoy the opportunity to play and the fact that they are able to help the younger children in many ways. The Nursery children love the extra attention and follow the lead and example of the older children as they want to be just like them.Dentist visitWe had a very important visitor in the Early Years School. A dentist from Van Mill dental clinic came to speak with all the children.Year 1 children attended a very informative talk all about teeth and dental hygiene. First, we discussed why our teeth are so important and why we need to look after them. The children learned what a cavity is and how these are made. Then we looked at many different soft drinks and found out how much sugar each one contained. We agreed that water was the best thing to drink. We learnt the importance of having strong, healthy teeth and why it is important to brush them for at least two minutes twice a day. The dentist told us that parents should brush their child's teeth until they are at least 10 years old to ensure they are properly cleaned. We looked at the best ways to brush, to make certain all our teeth are properly cleaned. We all agreed that an occasional sugary treat was okay but not every day. A healthy smile brings confidence and increases self-esteem. Please continue to support our healthy snack policy at school.5"
