b'The NewsJunior SchoolThe Junior SchoolWe have had a wonderful first term of learning, laughter and community in the Junior School. It has been such a pleasure to take up my new role as Head of Junior Schooland I have appreciated the warm welcome from staff, parents and pupils alike. This has been the same for all our new families and their children, who have settled so well. Teachers are delighted with childrens attitudes towards learning; they are curious, committed and keen to extend their learning collaboratively. Each year group has had its own unique curriculum highlights; from Year 2 welcoming fairy tale characters to their assembly to Year 6 producing YEAR 2VISIT TO TROPENMUSEUM their own record at a factory in Haarlem! Themed days have really brought topics to life with Ancient Egypt in Year 3, Romans in Year 4, and Victorians in Year 5 all offering unique opportunities to learn more about the past. To enhance the curriculum, every child has been on a local trip or visit and children have attended a wide range of extra-curricular clubs. Our elected School Council and two Eco Squads have been very busy organising fundraising events and campaigns. These have included a campaign to stop the use of paper cups in school, a food bank initiative to support our local community as well as selling poppies for the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Our Year 6 prefects are really making an impact in the Junior School; they are the champions of lost property!Year 4 performed a brilliant production of Treasure Island in our newly upgraded theatre and Year 2 prepared so well for their Winter performances. Music and singing can often be heard in the Junior School corridors; and our choirs and instrumentalists go from strength to strength. Our Chamber Choir sang beautifully at the RAFA Remembrance service in November and more recently our choir performed at VU Hospital. YEAR 3CLAY HOUSES IN ARTThroughout the term, we have focused on what makes us a real community including showing kindness and generosity towards others. This for me has been the real highlight of the term; teaching teams going above and beyond to bring learning alive and children who are so visibly happy to come into school each day. Wishing you all a wonderful Winter break and looking forward to all that the Spring Term has to offer!YEAR 5EXPERIMENTS IN SCIENCE CLASSMELANIE FIDGE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOLm.fidge @ britams.nl 8'
