b'The NewsEarly Years SchoolYear One A taste of Autumn This term the Year 1 children have been learning all about their senses. They have carried out experiments to test their senses and have explored their own sense of smell, taste, touch, sight and hearing. Blind folded taste testing was one of our favourites. Curriculum links were made with our topic of The Four Seasons; the children have used their knowledge of their five senses to explore the season of Autumn. They have developed the areas of Literacy, Art and Geography through the study of the changes in the season all around them. In Art the children have explored paint mixing, pastels, use of charcoal and collage all linking to the Autumn theme. They have written wonderful poems and descriptions of the world outside their window. They became weather forecasters and predicted and explained the weather using weather symbols and compass directions. We have measured rainfall and the daily changes in temperature. We all hunted for the widest leaf we could find and there were some very big leaves found. We have loved autumn and are closely watching the season changing as winter approaches.6'
