b"Issue 13 The British School of AmsterdamRemembranceThe British School of Amsterdam commemorated Dutch Remembrance Day and Liberation Day on 4th and 5th May.Students had a special assembly sharing the stories of those who lived in the Netherlands during World War Two and those who joined the Dutch Resistance. They were shown part of the documentary Selmas Oorlog, that had featured the school and BSA GCSE History students. In the documentary, Holocaust survivor, Selma van der Perre, returns to the school, where she had been detained during World War Two as part of the Resistance movement. The documentary aired on NPO2 in May as part of the Remembrance effort.The preserved cell in the school was also turnedinto a Place of Remembrance for those wishing to reflect on past and current conflicts. In the cell, filled with the poignant music of Leo Smit, a Dutch composer who perished in the Holocaust; staff, students, and visitors were able to write their messages of remembrance. These messages were then taken to form the BSA Remembrance Wreath: a lasting reminder of those gone, but not forgotten, and all who persevere without them.World Book DayBSA joined other schools across the globe in March to celebrate the 25th anniversary of World Book Day.
