b'Issue 19 The British School of AmsterdamKings DayKings Day Celebrations are a key feature of Summer Term when the children arrive to school dressed head to toe in orange and eager to enjoy traditional Dutch activities together. In Dutch lessons, the children learn about why Kings Day is celebrated in The Netherlands, facts about the King and about the games that Dutch children grow up playing in school and with their families, such as koekhappen and spijkepoepen, which cause much hilarity all round! This high energy day is much loved and a great opportunity for our international community to learn about part of the culture of the nation in which we live.Celebration AssembliesCelebration assemblies are a highlight of the Junior School week, taking place on Friday mornings and are a chance for the whole school to gather together to celebrate all of the wonderful achievements that have happened across the school throughout the week. Each week, the teachers nominate a Star Achiever from their class and share what they have excelled in, with the rest of the school. Children may be nominated for trying hard in their learning, showing kindness to friends, achieving a personal target or demonstrating resilience in their learning or their behaviour. All Star Achievers receive a certificate and their photo is displayed in the entrance hall for the week.13'
