b"Issue 19 The British School of AmsterdamLe Prix du Jeune LecteurAs part of their A Level studies or the First Language French club programme, French pupils took part in this years Prix du Lecteur.Congratulations to all the participants, with a special mention to Faustinefor her outstanding entry, which was selected by the jury.Feedback from the jury for Faustine: A polished piece of writing, with lovely life lessons, good examples from the book and impressive French. Very well done, congratulations!Faustines account: Participating in Le Prix du Jeune Lecteur Nerlandais was an opportunity for me to study a comic book for the first time. I learned to take into account the illustrated setting as well as the text to enhance my comprehension. It was equally interesting to discuss Ces jours que disparaissent as a group, to share and develop our opinions. This helps to write a well-balanced essay. It is also enriching to take part in a competitive event and improve my creative writing skills.Trip to ConcertgebouwMany of our Year 9 and 10 music students, as well as our Orchestra members, participated in the Concertgebouw's fantastic Workshop met Concert project. One student even described it as a magical day.During the composition workshop, our musicians were introduced to the works of the concert they were attending later that evening. They played musical games and created several of their own compositions, inspired by Florence Price's Second Violin Concerto, which they performed to each other. They played their own instruments or on the range of instruments provided by the Concertgebouw, including a grand piano, marimba, vibraphone, electric guitar and various percussion instruments. The depth of the discussions held and work on their compositions gave a very different experience of attending the concert. The evening concert programme featured Dvok's Overture 'Carnaval', Brahms' Fourth Symphony and Price's Second Violin Concerto, performed by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Yannick Nzet-Sguin conducting and the young violinist, Randall Goosby. A highlight for many was Goosbys encore, Louisiana Blues Strut by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson. We are all looking forward to future visits.17"
