b'Issue 19 The British School of AmsterdamRemoving the Mask WorkshopWe had the pleasure of inviting Tom Flatau,a globally recognised speaker and coach, neuroscience specialist, innovative trainer and CEO of Teamworking International Ltd to speak with our Year 8 students.Your brother is more intelligent was something Tom Flatau was often told as a child. Having failed a major entry exam and consigned to being average, he now empowers people to break down negative beliefs about themselves and enables them to understand that we are able to do anything we set our mind to.Toms aim was to challenge any negative beliefs students may hold about themselves through explanations of the science of our brain; an exploration of fixed vs growth mindset and anecdotes from his own experiences as a young teenager. Our students left with a greater sense of how to apply a growth mindset to failure and to envisage what is possible for them in their lives.UKMT Math Challenge SuccessIn our last edition of The Review we celebrated the success of our UKMT participants. We highlighted Daniel who went through to the next round. We are delighted to share with you that Daniel received a silver medal in the Maclaurin Round. We also had over 50 students across Year 7 and 8 who participated in the Junior UKMT. A huge congratulations to the many students who received a certificate. In particular, well done to Year 7 students, Anton and Kanishk, who received Gold and Ben who got the Best in Year scores. Our equally wonderful Year 8 students: William, Ruhaan and Isabelle who also achieved Gold and Soma who achieved the Best in School.19'
